The African sub-continent is playing host to potentially the greatest devastation known to mankind – the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The magnitude of the problem in South Africa is overwhelming the limited resources of the present government. The rates in other negative economic factors such as poverty, teenage pregnancy, poor household, drugs abuse and xenophobia are drastically increasing especially in the Western Cape region.
Youth Agents For Change (YA4C), as a socially responsible organization, has mindfully considered how to respond to the crisis in the region, starting from the Knysna area. Amongst other initiatives it has undertaken, the care of poor household and youth development has been given the highest priority. This has led to the establishment of YA4C – agents to bring light to the future. The vision is to shape future leaders who in time will be productive citizens capable of making a difference in their community and country. In order to implement this vision an independent programme, Londolozanani, has been created. This programme will serve children both for our organization and from broader Knysna community, enjoy educational arts & culture programme in an environment in which they are encouraged to achieve.
Youth Agents For Change (YA4C) is in a process of getting its registration certificate as a public benefit (18 a) organization restoring hope in people’s lives and bringing light towards the future.
It was established in November 2009 in the Knysna area, South Africa in response to the needs to provide care and support to the growing number of vulnerable children in the region with the highest incident of teenage pregnancy, poverty, drugs abuse, HIV/AIDS and poor infrastructure in the country. YA4C upholds the highest of ethical standards both financially and with regard to delivery and is committed to excellence in all it undertakes. YA4C is headed by one of the Founders and Executive Chairman, Mr. Vusumzi Johnson Booi.
It is envisioned that 10 programmes will be created in response to the challenges faced by the communities. Each programme will be headed by a committed Agent who will ensure development in future leaders (the children). A programme to help in poor household development has been started, where by Agents will connect a business to support a family. It is expected that one business will be in support of 12 households per annum, with food packages and educational material for the scholars in the family. YA4C will develop study-buddy educational programmes for needy children in poor households, which will assist learners with school work. |
